March Madness and Miracles

March Madness and Mayhem

As we all know March Madness brings a lot of mayhem. There are numerous upsets, and surprises among other great moments in March Madness.

Personally, I love to watch and always cheer for the underdogs. It’s just so fun to watch these athletes go all out in a one-and-done format where anyone can win and pull an upset of a top-ranked team.

It kind of reminds me of when Virginia was defeated as the number one overall seed by 16-seed, UMBC. The crazy thing was Virginia didn’t think, oh that’s it. We’ll never win again. NO! They won the whole thing the very next year.

Their coach, Tony Bennett even said they listened to Tauren Well’s song hills and valleys when they lost! Talk about a turnaround!

 March Madness and Moments

One cool part of a more recent memory is of Sister Jean who is the ultimate prayer warrior of the Loyola Chicago Ramblers. She prays before every game and for the team. They even made the final four as the lowest seed to make it to the Final Four in tournament history! They were the eleven seed.

It’s cool to see people of faith making it so far in the tournament and then seeing it on national tv is even better! So many people are watching and seeing firsthand how prayer does indeed work. We could all use someone like Sister Jean on our team!

 Miracles

I’m going to go all the way back to when Jimmy V or Valvano won the tournament with NC State against the Houston Cougars as major underdogs.

The game ended on a last-second putback in 1983 and the Wolfpack won their second national championship in school history.

How does March Madness and life coincide? What lessons can we take from March Madness? Well, we can take this: Life has ups and downs. It doesn’t go in a straight line. There are always going to be letdowns and frustrations.

But what do the great teams or people do when life knocks them down? They get back up! They don’t quit! Look at the example of Virginia! The first team to get upset by a 16 seed. Did they say well we’ll never recover from that? No! They went back to work.

More Miracles

Life is not easy, life is definitely hard. Until we see Jesus face to face there will always be challenges and just like in March Madness there will always be ups and downs. It’s what you do when you are down in order to make that comeback. So, embrace the Madness, and remember God’s got you!

If you don’t believe in Miracles know this. I’m a walking miracle. I have been through literal hell in my life where I wanted to give up on life. I was so sick of feeling awful but guess what. God turned it around, God saved me from my agony. Just like in Job when he lost everything, but then God restored Him and with even more.

That’s exactly what God has done for me. He can do the same for you! There is a song by Tasha Layton that goes, “Look what You’ve done, look what You’ve done in me, you spoke your truth into the lies I let my heart believe! Look what You’ve done, look how you’re made me new, the enemy did everything that he could do, oh but look what you’ve done!”

I believe that God can do anything and that he is in complete control. Trusting Him will be the best thing you’ll ever do. Trust Him!
